Jon Cattapan co-curating 'Turbulence, Conflict and the Garden of Remediation’ at Melbourne Gardens, Domain House

9th Oct 2019

Jon Cattapan will be co-curating 'Turbulence, Conflict and the Garden of Remediation’ at Melbourne Gardens, Domain House, on view from 12 October - 3 November. ⁣⠀ ⁣

The exhibition explores the unexpected relationships between gardens and plants in times of turbulence. Gardens offer refuge; they are places of rehabilitation and healing. The plants that grow within this environment take on the role of talisman and medicine, and now, as harbingers of conflict-driven climate change.

A public opening and welcome event for the exhibition will be held on Tuesday 15 October from 5:30pm. An accompanied symposium, 'AFTERSTORM: Gardens, War, Conflict’ will take place at Mueller Hall from 25 - 26 October. The symposium features presentations and panel discussions on the place of gardens within the movements of humans caught in turbulent flows. ⁣

Curated by Jon Cattapan, Lyndell Brown, Charles Green and Paul Gough, the exhibition and symposium is an Australian Research Council Discovery Project, and is presented by the Victorian College of the Arts and University of Melbourne in partnership with Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria.
