Patrick Lundberg 6

Patrick Lundberg is a painter who creates inconspicuous installations, characterised by a quiet, handmade aesthetic. Referencing traditions of Minimalism, Colour Field, Abstraction and Formalism, Lundberg’s unassuming paintings disarm and reinvigorate it through the lens of site-specificity. Lundberg’s distinctive pieces are comprised of small-scale elements – metal pins and rods, shoelaces, spheres of resin, wood and metal – arranged in sequence according to a set of spatial constraints designed to honour and enhance the work’s architectural context. Embedded into the walls or scattered on the floor, his interventions draw the viewer into engaging with the politics of perception and awareness.

Significant group exhibitions include Painting Amongst Other Things, curated by Oscar Capezio, ANCA Gallery, Canberra (2018), Necessary Distraction: A Painting Show, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, Auckland (2015), SPACES, The Dowse Art Museum, Wellington, NZ (2014) and Third/Fourth (y2/3/4k) Melbourne Biennale, Margaret Lawrence Gallery VCA, Melbourne (2013). Patrick’s work is held in the collections of The James Wallace Arts Trust, Auckland, New Zealand and The Chartwell Collection, Auckland, New Zealand. Patrick currently lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand.
